For years, Saint Wendelin Catholic School had been trying to add a baseball unit into their Physical Education class. Previously, the school only had four gloves to share and the students could only play at recess due to lack of equipment. After receiving an equipment grant from PIFBS, Saint Wendelin was finally able to offer baseball as a unit in Physical Education – exposing its students to a sport many of them had never played before. Physical Education teacher, Jessica, saw the students begin to participate in class more, connect with each other, and show willingness to try other sports at recess as a result of the baseball unit. The experience was so positive for the students that several enrolled in summer baseball leagues.
