Union Township Athletic Association’s softball and baseball programs received an equipment grant funded by the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Tull Family Foundation in 2020.
As a small community in the New Castle area, the league hoped the donation would ensure that kids participating would have updated equipment to make their experience safe and enjoyable. Union Township Athletic Association works hard to fundraise in order to keep their facilities and equipment maintained properly, but can not afford to purchase new equipment each year.
Sami, 9, used the new catchers equipment to help her play a position she had never played before. The league’s other equipment was old and broken and didn’t fit properly, so Sami was hesitant to try catching. When she saw the new gear, she felt encouraged to try something new.
