Nephi Recreation baseball and softball in Nephi, UT, received an equipment grant from PIFBS in 2020.
The recreation department is set up to serve a small community, but ultimately serves the entire county. The league has previously been able to come up with donations to cover the costs of registration, but did not have a way to help kids who don’t have their own gloves until they applied for and received an equipment grant of gloves, catchers gear, and batting helmets for the kids to use.
One child had shown up with an old plastic mitt that broke during his first game, but the parents were not able to provide him with a new one. With the equipment grant, the league was able to offer him a glove. His parents later shared that this was his favorite season, and most of it was due to having a brand new leather glove.
