Justin Cruz, a dedicated 9-year-old member of the Chicago Heat for three years, is truly the heart of our team. On March 14, 2023, he received the difficult diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which meant he could no longer play baseball. Shortly after this news, we were incredibly touched by a generous donation of baseballs and equipment that arrived right at our doorstep.
Despite his diagnosis, Justin was filled with joy as he helped distribute the new supplies to his teammates. His enthusiasm for attending all team practices remained unwavering, even though he couldn’t actively participate.
In May, we received wonderful news: Justin’s new doctor cleared him to return to baseball, albeit with some restrictions. Throughout this challenging journey, the unwavering support from his baseball team has been invaluable in helping Justin navigate this difficult chapter in his life. We are grateful for the camaraderie and encouragement that has made all the difference.
