The Hannah Graham Memorial Softball Tournament began in 2016 as a way to honor the memory of Hannah Graham – a former student at the University of Virginia who was abducted and murdered. “Hannah was an outstanding athlete and an exceptional student. She was optimistic and happy person, taking great delight in her many activities, which included softball.” The Hannah Graham Memorial Tournament Fund describes their mission as, “the fund, through an annual softball tournament, will raise money to financially support charitable groups designated by Hannah’s parents, John and Susan Graham.”
Over the summer, tournament director Karen Walker, contacted PIFS notifying us that we had been selected as one of the nonprofit organizations chosen by Hannah’s parents to receive a portion of the funds raised at the upcoming tournament. The tournament, which took place on in late September, raised over $26,000 and over $13,000 was designated to PIFS! Even more impressive, these funds were raised in only one day as the second day of the tournament was rained out. Pitch In For Softball was honored to be chosen as a recipient and looks forward to the opportunity to help hundreds of girls like Hannah take the field and play the game of softball.
