West Haven Little League Softball received an equipment grant in 2021 as part of the Little League and DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation Sports Matter Equipment Grant Program. For this initiative PIFBS sent out 3,560 kits to 366 Little Leagues across the country. The leagues would then give those kits to kids most in need of gear to help provide support to families.
The league’s baseball and softball programs also each received an equipment grant from PIFBS in 2020. Located in West Haven, CT, the league includes two softball teams with a total of 28 kids. With the equipment grant, the league hoped to make the game more accessible to lower income families.
Due to COVID-19, all players were required to provide their own glove, bat and helmet. Families who were financially strained could not afford new equipment. The equipment grant helped relieve some of the financial strain on the parents so the girls could take part in the season.
