Saxonburg Area Girls Softball Association in Saxonburg, PA, was a recipient of an equipment grant in 2020 as part of the Pirates Charities and Tull Family Foundation program, which provided baseball and softball gear to 20 leagues in Pennsylvania and one program in West Virginia.
The leagues offers scholarship grants for free registration to disadvantaged families, but the rising costs of equipment have made it more challenging. The COVID-19 pandemic also created the necessity for children to have their own sets of equipment, particularly catchers gear,
The largest benefit of the donation was that each catcher was able to claim her own set of catchers gear, and the league was still able to hold registration costs to their 2019 levels. Ava and Taylor on the 14U team helped their squad finish runner up for the regular season and playoffs, while the 15U team won their division in 2020 as Champions of their age bracket.
